Regular school attendance is paramount to success. Please be sure to come to school on time and ready to learn every day, and do your best to leave outside appointments for the after school hours. Of course, we understand there are times, due to illness or other unforeseen events, that require you to be late or miss a day of school. When this happens, please follow the guidelines on this page.
NEW FOR 2024-2025
Regular School Day:
1. Students will not be called out of class after 3:15 p.m.
2. To leave between 3:15 p.m. and 3:45 p.m., a student must turn in a parent early dismissal note at the beginning of the school day.
Early Release Days:
Students may not depart in the last 30 minutes of the day unless a parent early dismissal note was submitted at the beginning of the school day.
Early Dismissal
We strongly encourage you to schedule all appointments after school hours. If an early dismissal is necessary, please do the following:
-
Drop off a parent note at the Attendance office at the beginning of the school day.
-
Passes are delivered during first block.
-
Quietly leave class at the time designated on the pass (we will not call students from class).
-
Sign out at the Attendance office. A parent is NOT required to come into the school.
-
If your student should return to the school, they must sign back in at the Attendance office.
-
If the student does not submit a parent note, the parent must come in to sign the student out PRIOR TO 3:15 p.m. Please plan to show you photo ID for parent verification. The person picking up the student MUST BE ON THE STUDENT's EMERGENCY CONTACT LIST.
7. Early Dismissals are not taken over the phone.
When parents/guardians come to sign their students in/out, they will now remain within the vestibule area located in the first set of doors where you enter the building in the front lobby. Family members will remain in this waiting area until their student arrives to join them.
Late Arrival
A student who arrives after 8:45 a.m. is considered late.
1. Students without a parent note will report to the tardy table until 9:00 a.m.
2. Students arriving with a parent, or with a parent note, or arriving after 9:00 a.m., will report to the attendance office for a late pass.
3. Students who are on late buses will receive a late bus pass upon arrival.
Full Day Absence
If your student is going to be absent, please do one of the following within three days of the absence:
-
Call the Attendance office at (804) 365-8004.
-
Send a parent-signed note to provide a reason for the absence to the Attendance office.
-
Medical, court, or other professional documentation is always preferred.
-
Send an email ([email protected]) to the Attendance office.
Failure to send in documentation within three days will result in an unexcused absence.
Did you know?
- Attendance is a better predictor of graduation rates than 8th grade test scores.
- Missing 10%, or two days a month, over the course of the school year, can affect a student’s academic success.
