Attendance Info

Student working on green screen project

Regular school attendance is paramount to success. Please be sure to come to school on time and ready to learn every day, and do your best to leave outside appointments for the after school hours. Of course, we understand there are times, due to illness or other unforeseen events, that require you to be late or miss a day of school. When this happens, please follow the guidelines on this page.

Full Day Absence

If your student is going to be absent, please do one of the following within three days of the absence:

  • Call the Attendance office at (804) 365-8004.

  • Send a parent-signed note to provide a reason for the absence to the Attendance office. Medical or court documentation is always preferred.

  • Send an email to the Attendance office.

Failure to do so will result in an unexcused absence.

Late Arrival

A student who arrives after 8:45 a.m. is considered late. Students will report to the tardy table for the first 10 minutes. After 8:55 a.m., students will report to the attendance office for a late pass. Students who are on late buses should also follow these procedures.

New Attendance Office Location

You will notice that there is a new location for our attendance office! When parents/guardians come to sign their students in/out, they will now remain within the vestibule area located in the first set of doors where you enter the building in the front lobby. Family members will remain in this waiting area until their student arrives to join them.

Early Dismissal

We strongly encourage you to schedule all appointments after school hours. If an early dismissal is necessary, please do the following:

  1. Drop off a parent note at the Attendance office before school.

  2. Passes are delivered during first block.

  3. Quietly leave class at the time designated on the pass (we will not call students from class).

  4. Sign out at the Attendance office. A parent is not required to come into the school.

  5. If your student should return to the school, they must sign back in at the Attendance office.

  6. A parent must send a note in, or they must come in to sign the student out. Please plan to show you photo ID for parent verification.

Early Dismissals are not taken over the phone. A fax to Melinda Hammack must be received. The fax number is (804) 365-8056.
