Attendance Info

Student working on green screen project

Regular school attendance is paramount to success. Please be sure to come to school on time and ready to learn every day, and do your best to leave outside appointments for the after school hours. Of course, we understand there are times, due to illness or other unforeseen events, that require you to be late or miss a day of school. When this happens, please follow the guidelines on this page.

Full Day Absence

If your student is going to be absent, please do one of the following within three days of the absence:

  • Call the Attendance office

  • Send a parent-signed note to provide a reason for the absence to the Attendance office. Medical or court documentation is always preferred.

  • Send an email to the Attendance office.

Failure to do so will result in an unexcused absence.

Late Arrival

A student who arrives after 9:15 a.m. is considered late. He or she should report to the attendance office for a pass. Per semester, if a student accumulates five tardies spread out between any class, he/she will be assigned one day of after-school detention in room 407 until 4:30 p.m. If the student is unable to obtain a ride in order to attend after-school detention, the student may attend two days of lunch detention instead, per parent request. If the student skips detention, he/she will be assigned one day of in-school suspension. This process will occur again if the student reaches 10 tardies. If a student accumulates 15 tardies, the student will be assigned one day of ISS. This process will occur again for every additional five tardies. Please encourage your student to develop the habit of being on time to both school and class throughout the day!

Early Dismissal

We strongly encourage you to schedule all appointments after school hours. If an early dismissal is necessary, please do the following:

  1. Drop off a parent note at the Attendance office before school.

  2. Passes are delivered during first block.

  3. Quietly leave class at the time designated on the pass (we will not call students from class).

  4. Sign out at the Attendance office. A parent is not required to come into the school.

Early Dismissals are not taken over the phone. A fax or a scanned email to Melinda Hammack must be received. The fax number is (804) 365-8056.
